“In September 2020, Chatham & Clarendon Grammar School introduced a carbon reduction strategy and implemented into its curriculum the concept of becoming a carbon neutral school within six years. This was a very demanding target and one which will be difficult to achieve.

The main priorities for the school community within the strategy are to:

Adopt the Five R’s methodology: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Rot, Recycle: Going to a zero waste approach is an effective step towards combating climate change;

Use a Bicycle or walk rather than be transported by car;

Conserve water and protect our waterways;

Eat more locally produced food; eat more fruit and vegetables;

Switch to sustainable, cleaner energy.

We identified within our school site certain key aspects which would help us to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. One significant moment was meeting personnel from BeBa, our local solar engineering experts. We were impressed by their company’s vision and commitment to helping schools and hospitals lower their carbon footprint.

BeBa Energy have been excellent and have project managed an installation of solar panels in part of our school on time and in budget. As funds become available, we will work with BeBa on other projects within the school which will help us achieve our strategy.

The outcome of this installation will hugely support our school and enable our students not only to be able to complete their education with more resources that savings from the project will accrue, but also equip them with the understanding of how little projects like this will help improve the climate challenges we all face.

Thanks to BeBa for all your help so far…”

Dedicated to renewables

In August 2024, we successfully installed a 64-panel, roof-mounted Solar PV system at Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School. This project highlights the school’s commitment to sustainability, supports their goal of achieving energy independence and demonstrates their dedication to educating students about renewable energy. The system is projected to produce approximately 29,291 kWh per year, significantly lowering their carbon footprint. The environmental impact is substantial as well, equivalent to removing 556,156 miles of air travel and 619,034 cars miles off the road.
BeBa comments
“We are delighted to have been Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School’s solar partner, supporting their efforts toward achieving net zero. From the outset, the school had a clear vision, and we were able to deliver this in a timely manner whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality. This marks the beginning of our partnership with Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School, and we look forward to future collaborations on Solar PV projects with them and the wider education sector.”
